Ontario Provincial Police South Bruce OPP report that a 38-year-old man has lost his life at Port Elgin main beach. The man, who was from Burlington, was paddleboarding late Monday morning (July 12th) when he fell off the board. According to OPP, witnesses said he was in deep water outside the designated swimming area and seemed to be struggling. Some bystanders quickly acted and brought him back to shore where they performed life-saving measures. South Bruce OPP, Saugeen Shores Police Service, Saugeen Shores Fire Department, and Bruce County Paramedics responded. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The police are withholding his identity at the family’s request. OPP appreciate the assistance from those individuals yesterday and remind everyone that wearing life jackets is mandatory while paddleboarding.
