Authorities report that restaurants, trucking firms, and other businesses were ‘repeatedly targeted’ after refusing ‘persistent’ requests for money.

Peel Regional Police have taken into custody 17 individuals, including a man from Barrie, most of whom investigators claim are linked to an international criminal group known as For Brothers.

According to police, they focused on South Asian business owners and community members throughout Peel Region, Canada, and the United States.

Leading the extortion task force, law enforcement says their investigation uncovered a “co-ordinated campaign of intimidation, threats and escalating violence used to extort local businesses.”

The organized crime group is said to be behind a series of targeted attacks against the South Asian community in Peel Region. They are believed to have operated in Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, and British Columbia with connections to California.

A joint forces operation began in December 2025 involving Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police alongside Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).

“Numerous businesses, such as restaurants and trucking companies, were repeatedly attacked after refusing extortion demands. This highlights the group’s determination and increasingly violent methods,” police noted in a press release on Monday.

In one case, investigators allege that two accused individuals were involved in both a shooting and arson at a residence in Caledon. This was shortly followed by another shooting aimed at a business in Brampton.

Overall, the 17 suspects are connected to 24 incidents according to police reports. Of those incidents, 16 violent occurrences linked to For Brothers have been identified. These include arson cases along with multiple shootings where over 324 rounds were fired.

In April 2026, law enforcement executed several search warrants across various sites which led to the arrest of these 17 men facing a total of 106 criminal charges:

Iqbal Singh Bhagria, 25, from Brampton, Ont.

Akashdeep Singh, 24, from Norval, Ont.

Ravinder Singh, 25, from Surrey, B. C.

Jashanbir Singh, 21 from Surrey B. C.
