With the pouring of concrete officially starting, Trillium Health Partners (THP) has reached a significant milestone in the construction of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children.

This event was celebrated with a traditional coin toss involving government officials, donors, and Team THP, symbolizing good luck. Following this ceremony, crews poured the coins into the foundation of the future hospital. A year after breaking ground, this advancement marks an important step in a redevelopment project aimed at increasing health care capacity in Mississauga.

“This moment represents something very real for our community: we are laying the foundation for a new kind of health system in Mississauga and beyond,” said Karli Farrow, president and CEO, Trillium Health Partners. “More than just a building and beds, we are also redesigning care to be more connected, more digitally enabled and more centred on the needs of patients and families, improving access, strengthening partnerships across the system and delivering better outcomes for generations to come.”

“Today marks a historic milestone for residents in Mississauga and Peel as we continue to make progress on The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children. The new hospital will provide convenient, world-class care to over two million people,” said Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario.

The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children are being designed as a modern hub of care that connects hospital services with primary care, home and community services, as well as long-term care to improve the patient experience. Anchored within The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will be digitally enabled and connected across hospital, ambulatory, virtual and community-based services. This approach helps women, children and families receive care as one coordinated system instead of experiencing it through disconnected steps.

The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital is No. 4 on Re New Canada’s 2026 Top100 Projects report.

Progress at the Mississauga Hospital site continues to move ahead on schedule and within budget. Some highlights include:

  • Excavation is now over 78% complete
  • The site spans 250,000 square feet (approximately 15 hockey rinks)
  • 7 tower cranes have arrived onsite
  • Concrete foundation work including footings walls has begun
  • A new roundabout will open off Bronte College Court this summer to allow access to all entrances
In July 2025, Infrastructure Ontario along with THP partnered with the Ontario government to award a fixed-price contract worth $13.9 billion to ED+PCL Healthcare Partners to design, build finance,, and maintain The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital along with Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children.

“This event highlights the outstanding progress our project team has made over the past year while recognizing their daily dedication toward moving forward. We appreciate everyone’s ongoing effort that has brought us here. As we enter this next phase of construction phase,, ED+PCL Healthcare Partners look forward to collaborating with all key stakeholders ensuring safe delivery of this landmark hospital meeting high standards set by Trillium Health Partners along with our community,” said Kieran Hawe,, president , and CEO Ellis Don Corporation.

“Together with ED+PCL Healthcare Partners,, Infrastructure Ontario,, Trillium Health Partners,, our design teams , and trade partners., we’re excited about reaching this one-year milestone since breaking ground on what will become an essential part of healthcare in our area. The progress we’ve made reflects what can happen when strong partnerships combine collaboration along shared goals. We’re grateful toward everyone involved whose expertise keeps bringing this vision closer every day benefiting our community far into future,” stated Chris Gower president & CEO PCL Construction.
