With the pouring of concrete officially starting, Trillium Health Partners (THP) has reached a significant milestone in the construction of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children.
This event was celebrated with a traditional coin toss involving government officials, donors, and Team THP, symbolizing good luck. Following this ceremony, crews poured the coins into the foundation of the future hospital. A year after breaking ground, this advancement marks an important step in a redevelopment project aimed at increasing health care capacity in Mississauga.
“This moment represents something very real for our community: we are laying the foundation for a new kind of health system in Mississauga and beyond,” said Karli Farrow, president and CEO, Trillium Health Partners. “More than just a building and beds, we are also redesigning care to be more connected, more digitally enabled and more centred on the needs of patients and families, improving access, strengthening partnerships across the system and delivering better outcomes for generations to come.”
“Today marks a historic milestone for residents in Mississauga and Peel as we continue to make progress on The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children. The new hospital will provide convenient, world-class care to over two million people,” said Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario.
The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children are being designed as a modern hub of care that connects hospital services with primary care, home and community services, as well as long-term care to improve the patient experience. Anchored within The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will be digitally enabled and connected across hospital, ambulatory, virtual and community-based services. This approach helps women, children and families receive care as one coordinated system instead of experiencing it through disconnected steps.
