The province of Ontario has announced new funding for four senior active living centers in Waterloo Region.

Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris revealed the $227,872 investment on Monday morning.

The funding will benefit programs at The Wellesley Active Living Centre’s Active Living Program, the Woolwich Seniors Association at Woolwich Elderly Persons Centre, the Wilmot Active Living Centre, and the Wellesley Village Active Living Centre.

Together, these organizations serve over 1,250 seniors in their communities.

The aim of this funding is to keep more older Ontarians engaged, active, and social. This not only improves their quality of life but also helps them remain in their homes longer.

“From pickleball at local recreation centres to virtual book clubs enjoyed from home, these programs make a meaningful difference for seniors across our region,” said Harris in a press release.

The province has committed nearly $23 million to support 416 Senior Active Living Centres throughout Ontario.
