A number of bands from southwestern Ontario are set to perform at the Canatara Park Bandshell for a fundraiser benefiting Ryan’s House.

Punk Rock Picnic will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 3 p. m. to 9 p. m.

Co-organizer Desiree Percival expressed her enthusiasm about the event returning after not being held since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the break, Percival mentioned that the event typically attracted around 150 to 200 attendees.

“You can expect six pretty cool southwestern Ontario bands. They’re all over the map. We have some thrash, we have some punk.. we have a cover band,” Percival said. “They take your classic 50s and 60s songs and make them a little bit faster to dance to.”

Local vendors will also be at the park offering food and various items.

Percival noted that the event began as a way for people to gather outdoors while raising funds for a good cause, with different charities being supported each year.

“Ryan’s House is near and dear to us, so we’re doing that one this year,” Percival said.

Bluewater Health’s Ryan’s House is a residential withdrawal management facility that opened in 2021.

Tickets for this family-friendly, unlicensed event are priced at $15 each and can be purchased online through revelree. ca. Children under 14 can enter free of charge.

You can find more details on the event’s Facebook page.
