A man is in critical condition, according to Windsor police, following a shooting involving officers in the city’s east end on Friday night.

Police say they responded around 6:30 p. m. to reports of an “altercation” close to Roseville Garden Drive and Thornberry Crescent.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male suspect armed with a knife. During the encounter, the suspect was shot by police,” Windsor police stated in a social media update Friday night.

“The suspect has been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

Witnesses told that they heard several shots fired. noted more than a dozen police vehicles at the scene around 8 p. m.

Authorities have urged people to steer clear of the area, stating that Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has taken over the investigation.

The SIU mentioned it is “in the process” of gathering information from police and didn’t have more details available immediately.

This unit investigates incidents involving police that result in death, serious injury, allegations of sexual assault or firearm discharge at a person.
