A man who was discovered unresponsive in a parking lot in east Windsor has died at the hospital, according to police.

“The Windsor Police Service regrets to confirm that the man who was found unresponsive has since passed away in hospital. Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the police wrote in an update Thursday.

Officers responded to reports of an unconscious individual around 11:20 a. m. on January 1, 2026. Authorities say he was located behind a commercial building on Tecumseh Road East, specifically in the 5100 block.

When officers arrived, they found a man who was unconscious and needed medical assistance. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

The victim is described by police as a Black man in his early 20s. At the time, he was wearing a black button-up shirt, jeans, and white running shoes.

The Major Crimes Unit of Windsor Police Service has taken over the case and is working to find out what led up to this incident.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in that area or seen the victim prior to the event to reach out. Residents and local business owners are also encouraged to check their security or dash camera footage for any relevant information that could aid investigators.

If you have any information, please contact the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Windsor and Essex County Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at catchcrooks. com.
