Four settlement organizations will set up offices at St. Michael’s Adult Catholic High School to enhance support for students.
The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc., and Centre communautaire francophone Windsor-Essex-Kent have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board to establish a community hub.
St. Michael’s Adult Catholic High School serves about 1,500 students each year, with roughly 70 percent participating in English as a Second Language programs.
“The average student to get here might be two buses, could be an hour and a half trip but now that they can get the services they need for Ontario Works or references or job opportunities. Now it’s all in a one stop shop,” said Douglas Sadler, principal at St. Michael’s Adult Catholic High School.
Rose Anguiano Hurst, Executive Director at Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc., believes this community hub will improve access for those who need it most.
“We do our outreach the best we can but to be here in a hub well known like St. Michaels, in collaboration with the other partners here, it’s going to be a game changer for our organization,” said Anguiano Hurst.
The new offices are expected to open by mid-September.
