Bruce Power has enhanced its commitment to public safety and emergency preparedness by forming a formal partnership with Ontario Corps, the provincial government’s emergency response program.

By collaborating with this network of organizations and volunteers, the energy company will assist in implementing the province’s plan to provide essential help and respond swiftly to local emergencies.

“We are pleased to welcome Bruce Power to the growing Ontario Corps network,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “As a leader in safety and preparedness, Bruce Power brings valuable expertise, equipment, facilities and industry connections that can help support emergency response efforts across Ontario.”

If an emergency occurs, Bruce Power can offer its facilities, personnel, specialized tools, vehicles, and heavy machinery to support response operations when those resources are available. The operator can also leverage its wide-ranging network of suppliers, contractors, industry groups, and business partners to procure critical supplies and share important supply chain information. Additionally, the company is ready to provide risk assessment, incident management strategies, technical guidance, volunteer mobilization assistance, and public relations support while actively encouraging its employees to join the corps.

“At Bruce Power, safety and preparedness are at the core of everything we do,” said James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “Joining Ontario Corps is a natural extension of our commitment to supporting the communities we serve and helping build a more resilient Ontario. Through our people, resources, facilities and industry partnerships, we are proud to support emergency preparedness and response efforts while encouraging our employees to contribute their skills and expertise when Ontarians need them most.”

Set up for quick action within 24 to 72 hours after an event strikes , the Ontario Corps provides vital assistance to affected regions by deploying personnel along with equipment like flood barriers , drones , debris removal machines , and necessary relief supplies.

The initiative invites volunteers from all professional backgrounds regardless of experience level , offering comprehensive training while assigning recruits based on their skills , interests , and availability.

The nuclear power generator already has an extensive internal emergency management system that includes dedicated first responders , facilities , specialized equipment , and trained staff.

“Bruce Power recognizes that strong emergency preparedness depends on collaboration and partnerships,” said Jeff Steven , Bruce Power’s Chief Security Officer Head of Emergency Preparedness Response. “We are pleased to support Ontario Corps its important mission of helping communities when they need it most. This partnership will strengthen emergency response capabilities interoperability across Ontario helping ensure resources can be mobilized quickly effectively during emergencies.”
