Two individuals suffered serious injuries after a head-on crash near Highway 407 in Whitby last Friday.

Durham Regional Police reported that they arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle accident at Lake Ridge Road and Hwy. 407 around 2:15 p. m.

Authorities stated that a Hyundai SUV was traveling south on Lake Ridge Road while a Mitsubishi SUV was leaving the Hwy. 407 off-ramp.

According to police, the driver of the Mitsubishi seemed to enter the intersection, leading the Hyundai to swerve out of its lane and collide with a Dodge minivan heading north.

Durham police indicated that the 24-year-old driver of the Hyundai SUV was transported to a trauma center in Toronto with life-threatening injuries.

Two occupants in the Dodge minivan were also hurt.

Police mentioned that a 77-year-old passenger was taken to a Toronto-area trauma center with critical, but non-life-threatening, injuries, while the 69-year-old driver was sent to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The roads remained closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation at the site.
