Police have arrested a man from Whitby and are on the lookout for two additional suspects following an incident where a victim was assaulted and robbed.

The robbery took place on Wednesday around 8:40 p. m. near 14th Avenue and Birchmount Road, according to York Regional Police.

The male victim was heading to his car when two suspects approached him and demanded that he hand over his satchel bag, police report.

A struggle broke out at that moment, leading to the victim being assaulted. He was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The two suspects then escaped the scene in a silver sport utility vehicle driven by a third individual.

Officers were able to identify one suspect, resulting in an arrest after a raid at a home in Whitby.

York police have charged Alden Nunes, 26, from Whitby with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained through crime over $5,000.

Authorities are still searching for two unidentified suspects.

One of the suspects is described as a Black male approximately 5’10” tall with a medium build. He was seen wearing a black hoodie, black Air Force 1 shoes, and a mask.

No details are available about the suspect driving the vehicle used in the crime.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are encouraged to contact the York Regional Police Hold Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www. ontariocrimestoppers. ca.

When you reach out to Crime Stoppers you will remain anonymous, will never need to testify, and could earn up to $2,000 as a reward.
