After many years in Whitby, Toys’R’Us is shutting down.
Earlier this year, the company sought creditor protection after running into legal issues with unpaid suppliers and landlords, while also racking up around $160-million in debt.
In the past two years, Toys’R’Us Canada has closed 53 stores. Over the last decade, 180 locations have shut down in America.
The Whitby store will officially close after its final day of business on August 16.
A letter from the brand’s mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe can be seen posted outside the store.
“To our loyal customers, thank you for your support, kindness and trust. It has been our privilege to serve this community and we are truly grateful for the memories we’ve shared!”.
Until August 16, the store says ‘everything must go’. There are huge discounts on all remaining stock, ranging from 50 to 90 percent off.
Any flyers or promotional sales you see are not valid and all sales are final.
Spirit Halloween will be moving into the space and according to their website, they plan to open in September.
