Two individuals sustained serious injuries, with one person facing life-threatening conditions, after a head-on crash in Whitby.
According to Durham police, around 2:15 p. m. on Friday, July 17, officers responded to a report of a collision near Lake Ridge Road and Highway 407.
The investigation revealed that a Hyundai SUV was heading south on Lake Ridge Road while a Mitsubishi SUV was exiting the 407 off-ramp.
The Mitsubishi SUV entered the intersection, which caused the Hyundai SUV to swerve from its lane and collide head-on with a Dodge minivan traveling north on Lake Ridge Road.
Police reported that the 24-year-old driver of the Hyundai SUV suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma center in Toronto. A 77-year-old passenger in the Dodge minivan received critical but non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a Toronto trauma center.
The 69-year-old driver of the Dodge minivan had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit arrived at the scene to carry out an investigation, resulting in road closures in the area for several hours.
