The Beer Store has announced that they will be shutting down two more locations in the Durham Region next year.
According to a recent press release, a Whitby store (3950 Brock St. N.) and one in Oshawa (150 Midtown Dr.) are set to close in January.
“The Beer Store is evolving operations to meet the changing needs of a modernized retail market. Unfortunately, this includes making the difficult decision to close retail locations. We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers and our employees,” said Ozzie Ahmed, VP Retail at The Beer Store.
“The Beer Store recognizes the contributions our employees make to the business and in the communities where we operate. All efforts will be made to support employees through this process in alignment with commitments and agreements.”
The Whitby Brock Street location will officially close on January 11, while the Oshawa Midtown Drive store will shut down on January 18.
This brings the total number of store closures in Durham Region to four since an Ajax location (1953 Ravenscroft Rd.) closed in July and a Pickering store (1355 Kingston Rd.) closed its doors in November.
The closures come after The Beer Store and Ontario grocers reached an agreement-in-principle which allows retailers to avoid collecting empties, giving a new yet unspecified role to brewers.
