A man has died after he was trapped under a steamroller at a work site in Whitby, Ont., police say.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a. m. on Tuesday, according to Durham Regional Police Service.
Authorities were called to the intersection of Hopkins Street and Consumers Drive to assist an ambulance call. Upon arrival, they discovered an unconscious man pinned beneath the heavy machinery.
It’s unclear how the individual became stuck under the equipment.
Emergency responders lifted the steamroller off him, but attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful as they couldn’t find any vital signs.
According to police, the Ministry of Labour is now leading an investigation into what happened.
