A man has lost his life and two others were hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident in Whitby early Friday, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Emergency responders arrived at the off-ramp on Highway 401 eastbound to Brock Street around 2:55 a. m. after receiving reports of a vehicle rollover.
A 23-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, OPP officials said. Authorities reported that two other passengers – a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman – were transported to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
The off-ramp to Brock Street will remain shut down Friday until road sign repairs are completed by the Ministry of Transportation. However, the on-ramp and all lanes of Highway 401 in that area are open.
“We’re asking motorists to avoid the area if possible, but we are hoping to reopen the ramp shortly,” said OPP acting Sgt. Nicola Morris.
An investigation into the crash is currently underway, investigators stated.
