The Fraser Institute has released its yearly rankings of high schools in Ontario, and a school in Whitby is leading the pack for Durham.
This report evaluated 747 public, Catholic, and independent schools using at least six academic metrics based on province-wide testing results. In Ontario, these standardized tests are conducted by the EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office).
G. L. Roberts Collegiate and Vocational Institute (CVI) received the lowest score among all Durham high schools with a rating of 3.8, while Donald A. Wilson Secondary School in Whitby achieved the highest score of 8.4 out of 10, placing it in the Top 50 across Ontario.
The institute noted that a lower score doesn’t mean a school hasn’t made progress compared to previous years, and data indicates that every school has potential for improvement regardless of type, location, or student demographics.
