An 8-year-old girl has died following a crash in Oakville on Thursday, where an SUV hit two pedestrians, according to Halton police.
The collision reconstruction unit is looking into the incident that also left a 39-year-old woman injured, said Jeff Dillon from the Halton Regional Police Service.
“Becoming police officers, these are the things that we dread,” Dillon stated while at the scene shortly after the accident.
Just before 4 p. m. on Thursday, police were called to North Service Road West and Lindsay Drive. An SUV veered off the road and hit both the woman and her daughter, as reported by Halton police.
Authorities say both were rushed to trauma centres but sadly, the child passed away despite life-saving measures.
A 47-year-old man from Oakville has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death, according to police. Dillon mentioned that the man stayed at the scene after the crash.
“Our prayers go out to the family and that young child,” Dillon said. He noted that police will be interviewing witnesses and continuing their investigation as more evidence is gathered.
