A driver involved in a crash in north Whitby at the end of May, which resulted in four teens being taken to the hospital – three with serious injuries – is facing eight charges, including impaired driving and stunt driving.
Durham Police arrived at the scene of a single vehicle accident near Myrtle Road West and Duffs Road in rural Whitby during the early hours of May 28. A Toyota RAV4 was heading east on Myrtle Road when it lost control and veered off the road, causing at least two occupants to be ejected from the vehicle.
A 16-year-old girl had to be airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto due to serious injuries, while the 18-year-old driver and a 19-year-old man were also transported to the trauma center with severe injuries. A 14-year-old boy sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The area was closed off for several hours as members of the DRPS Collision Investigation team gathered evidence.
On Thursday, Alexander Burg from Whitby was arrested and charged with two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm, impaired driving, stunt driving, taking a vehicle “without consent,” and two charges related to being a novice driver.
He has been held for a bail hearing.
