Teams throughout Durham Region are busy restoring power following a severe thunderstorm that swept through the area.
The storm occurred on Wednesday afternoon, disrupting many Canada Day festivities.
High winds and heavy rain caused power lines to fall and trees to be uprooted across the region.
As of the time this article was , thousands of residents in Durham were still without power.

The extreme weather led the City of Oshawa to cancel its Canada Day celebrations.
Ajax, Whitby, and Clarington proceeded with their events, although some adjustments were made.
