A man from Waterloo has been taken into custody for an alleged robbery at gunpoint and assault that occurred in Guelph over two months ago.
According to Guelph police, the incident started on December 2, when a worker in the area of Woodlawn Road West and Elmira Road North called 911. They reported that an injured man had approached them seeking assistance.
This individual was identified as being from northern Ontario, and authorities noted he had traveled to Guelph to meet several men regarding investments.
The victim was reportedly sitting in an SUV owned by one of these men when another man entered the vehicle and began attacking him.
The suspects allegedly took his personal items, but he managed to escape and sought help.
He received treatment at a hospital for injuries to his head and face.
On Monday of this week, Guelph police arrested a suspect: a 26-year-old man from Waterloo.
Initially, he faced charges of robbery with a firearm and forcible confinement. However, during a search, officers discovered small baggies believed to contain cocaine and Percocet.
As a result, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking were added to his charges.
The investigation is still ongoing according to Guelph Police.
