This Sunday is Mother’s Day, so you’ll find plenty of brunches, teas, and special events happening at various restaurants and locations across the region.

On Saturday morning, join forester Andrew Puchalski for a forest walk at Doon Heritage Village within the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum. Be sure to grab your tickets ahead of time.

This Saturday from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m., there’s also Doors Open Along The Grand at multiple spots in Brantford, Brant, and Six Nations of the Grand River. Notable sites include the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, Chiefswood National Historic Site, the Langford Schoolhouse, and Woodland Cultural Centre.

If you’re looking for something unique on Saturday from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m., check out the spring market at St. George’s Anglican Church in Guelph featuring over 35 local makers and artists (ideal for Mother’s Day gifts). There will be food and drink vendors available as well. Entry is pay what you can or bring a food donation for the Guelph Food Bank.

Into The Woods

Friday at 7:30 p. m., Saturday at 2 p. m. and 7:30 p. m., Sunday at 2 p. m.

New Hamburg Arena

The Community Players of New Hamburg are putting on Into The Woods, which follows several fairytale characters who venture into a forest to fulfill their wishes.

You’ll also get to see how they transform an old hockey rink into a theater space.

Head Into The Woods with New Hamburg community theatre group

Every spring, folks from all walks of life come together in New Hamburg to create theater inside the town’s former ice hockey arena. The Community Players of New Hamburg are back with Into The Woods opening Thursday and running through the weekend. Director Aaron Balzer and actor Katie Neeb share insights about this production and what makes community theater meaningful.

Waste Discovery Day

Saturday 9 a. m. to 1 p. m.

925 Erb St. W., Waterloo, Gate 1

You can take a guided bus tour around the Waterloo landfill while meeting the falconer who helps manage pests on site.

The event also features games, mint planting, face painting, and other family-friendly activities.

Poyo Fest

Saturday 11 a. m. to 7 p. m.

Gaukel Block, Kitchener

<p Come celebrate everything Poyo-the term used by Kirby from that cute video game-at this fun event showcasing various artists, makers, and small businesses.</

If you’re interested in activities or workshops throughout the day, keep in mind that while attending the market is free some activities do have costs associated with them. Bloom and Grow Open House Saturday 2 p. m. to 9:30 p. m.

Button Factory Arts Centre, 25 Regina St. S., Waterloo

This afternoon event includes family-friendly activities like music and crafts. At4. p. m , adult programming kicks off featuring more craft stations, performances , and creating a community wall mural.

The annual sale organized by the Galt Horticultural Society offers a wide selectionof items including plants perfect for when it finally warms up enoughto start gardening.
