RICHMOND HILL, ON, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Musician Katie Dauson from Richmond Hill, Ontario has just dropped her new single “Fresh Sugar,” a country rock love song that captures the joy of finding that special someone who makes everything click. The track came together quickly and unexpectedly; it was written on her dad’s birthday after she spun a Raspberries record on vinyl, which inspired both the hook and title right then and there in her family room.
Dauson recorded “Fresh Sugar” at Cleveland Sound Lab in Vaughan, Ontario with producer and engineer James Nickle. She released this single through Frog & Bog Records. Not only did she write and compose the track herself but also sang it while playing rhythm guitar and designing its artwork.
Her music mixes elements of rock and roll, rockabilly, surf rock, country, folk and bluegrass into a unique sound that’s hard to pin down. She draws inspiration from a wide range of artists including The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Fats Domino, ELO and Gordon Lightfoot. Her journey into music wasn’t straightforward either; she studied physics and astronomy at York University while working at the David Dunlap Observatory under Dr. Tom Bolton-who is known for discovering the first black hole. However, health issues led her away from that path until she stumbled upon an open mic night where performing her original song “Virtual Sky” changed everything for her.
Onstage with her full band includes Trenton Moore on drums, Lex Stultz on bass guitar, Blake Little on lead guitar along with Darren Armoogam on keyboards. Kun Huang and Walter Chan complete their group playing saxophone and flute.
<p With "Fresh Sugar," Dauson delivers one of her most straightforward love songs yet-showing that sometimes the simplest feelings are also the most powerful ones to express.
