A new Costco warehouse is quickly taking shape in a beach town in Ontario that really needs a bulk grocery store. If all goes according to plan, the store could be ready for shoppers as early as this fall.
The popular retailer is set to open a brand-new location in the tourist town of Wasaga Beach, just off Highway 26 near Mosley Street. Construction officially started back in June, and already the structure is rising fast, with photos of the progress being shared in local Facebook groups.
When finished, the new Costco will cover about 162,000 square feet, making it one of the largest commercial projects along the Highway 26 corridor, according to local officials.
This warehouse is expected to include many of the departments that regular Costco shoppers are familiar with, such as fresh produce, meat, a bakery, service deli, and food court. There will also be a pharmacy, hearing center, optical department, gas bar, and tire center.
Once opened, Costco expects that this location will create over 370 jobs.
As of now, they are already hiring for various positions at the warehouse. These roles include audiologists, registered pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks, pharmacy students, opticians and optical students.
Other job openings include bakers, cake decorators, meat cutters, stockers, service deli clerks and tire installers. According to job listings posted by Costco for this site, wages for some positions range from around $20 to $46.15 depending on the role.
For residents and visitors in the area alike, this new warehouse should make bulk shopping far more convenient than having to drive out to Barrie or other nearby Costco locations.
<p Typically speaking, it takes about three and a half to four months to build Costco warehouses. This means construction at Wasaga Beach could be moving swiftly toward completion if things keep up at this pace.
This won’t be the only new Costco coming to Ontario soon either; construction on another warehouse in East Windsor is expected to start later this year. Meanwhile other stores in Oakville, Thunder Bay and Caledon aren’t anticipated until at least 2027.
The new Costco store in Wasaga Beach will be located at 345 Lyons Court and is expected to open sometime this fall.
