WASHINGTON (AP) – Former President Donald Trump is set to travel to Ohio this Saturday to back Sen. Jon Husted as the Republican faces a tough contest against Democratic former Sen. Sherrod Brown.
The visit to Vandalia, located just north of Dayton, follows his appearances in Oklahoma on Thursday and Alabama on Friday. This Ohio election is considered crucial for determining who controls the Senate.
Trump previously promised to campaign in 35 key battleground races leading up to November’s midterm elections.
Brown is making a comeback attempt two years after losing his Senate position to Republican Bernie Moreno. Husted has a long history in Ohio’s Republican politics, having served as a state lawmaker, House speaker, secretary of state, and lieutenant governor before stepping into the Senate seat left vacant by JD Vance when he became vice president.
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou recently shared with The Associated Press that he was hopeful for Trump’s visit, noting that he won the state in 2024 by an impressive margin of 11 percentage points.
“We definitely want him here,” Triantafilou said. “He’s a turnout driver for us.”
