Toronto locals will have a variety of options to celebrate Canada Day on Wednesday, with activities ranging from fireworks to outdoor fun and indoor events to escape the heat.

Environment Canada has issued an orange-level heat warning for the city, predicting a high of 35 C, which will feel like 45 C due to humidity.

The forecast shows sunny weather early on, followed by a mix of sun and clouds along with a 40 per cent chance of showers in the late afternoon and early evening. There’s also a possibility of thunderstorms before nightfall. Later, it should clear up, cooling down to around 24 C.

In a news release this week, the city encourages residents and visitors to join together for this special day.

“As we mark Canada Day, we recognize that people may celebrate or acknowledge this day in different ways, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities. As we come together, we remain committed to truth, reconciliation and building respectful relationships,” the city adds.

Fireworks

The city will host a fireworks display at Ashbridges Bay Park located at 1561 Lake Shore Blvd. E., starting at 10 p. m.

You can also see fireworks at these locations:

Milliken Park, 4325 Mc Cowan Rd. at 10 p. m. Amesbury Park, 151 Culford Rd. at 10 p. m. Stan Wadlow Park, 888 Cosburn Ave. at 10 p. m. Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St. at 10 p. m. Downsview Park: on its festival terrace located at 70 Canuck Avenue around 10 p. m. Harbourfront Centre: visitors can enjoy the fireworks along the waterfront from HTO Park to the west or Harbour Square Park to the east between 10:45 p. m. and 11 p. m.

No fireworks display is planned for Nathan Phillips Square.

The city states that residents aged 18 and older can set off fireworks on their private property without needing a permit before 11 p. m., but they aren’t allowed in parks, beaches, streets or parking lots not owned by them.

“Those setting off fireworks must be mindful of their surroundings and not discharge fireworks where they may be a nuisance or pose a risk of fire, injury or damage to any person or property,” warns the city.

Nathan Phillips Square will host live music performances as well as dance acts, a citizenship ceremony, kids’ activities, and soccer sessions from noon until six o’clock pm.
