Strong winds and blowing snow may lead to tough conditions across parts of the Greater Toronto Area early this morning.

Environment officials indicate that westerly wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are on the way, along with dropping temperatures and more snowfall, which could lower visibility in open areas.

This weather situation might affect Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, and Durham Region, especially in places where blowing snow can form quickly.

Blowing snow and slippery conditions possible

While significant snowfall amounts aren’t expected, the mix of fresh snow and strong winds might cause blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.

Drivers and pedestrians may face:

Reduced visibility due to blowing snow Slippery roads and sidewalks, particularly untreated surfaces Sudden wind gusts that could affect high-profile vehicles

Winds are expected to calm down later in the morning

The strongest winds are anticipated early this morning, with conditions slowly getting better as the morning goes on.

Weather officials say these gusty winds should die down later this morning, which will help improve travel conditions across the area.

Safety reminders

Residents venturing out early should take extra care.

Officials suggest driving carefully, allowing more time for commutes and being aware that untreated roads and sidewalks might become icy.

Those clearing snow are also encouraged to take regular breaks and avoid overexertion, especially as cold temperatures and strong winds sweep through the region.
