The Toronto Maple Leafs made a notable trade when they brought Kirill Marchenko over from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

But Marchenko isn’t the only player joining Toronto from Columbus. They also picked up winger Miles Wood, who’s currently playing with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

However, questions are already being raised about Wood’s future with the Maple Leafs. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has mentioned that Toronto attempted to trade Wood shortly after acquiring him. Because of this, he might be one of those players who gets moved during this offseason.

If we look at possible teams for Wood’s next stop, the Vancouver Canucks emerge as an interesting choice. They’re in a rebuilding phase and might be willing to take a chance on an experienced winger like Wood.

This has led Heavy Sports to propose a trade where the Maple Leafs send Wood to the Canucks.

This deal would allow the Maple Leafs to clear some cap space while moving past Wood’s contract. On the flip side, Vancouver wouldn’t have to give up much for a veteran forward who has had successful moments in his career.

A Closer Look at Wood

Last season, Wood played in 54 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets and scored eight goals along with 14 points and delivered 63 hits. This followed his time with Colorado Avalanche during which he recorded four goals, eight points, and made 48 hits across just 37 games in the previous season.

Overall, it’s been two quiet seasons for Wood. Despite this trend, he could present an interesting opportunity for Vancouver if they decide to bring him aboard. In previous seasons-2022-23 and 2023-24-he managed to rack up scores totaling around twenty-six or twenty-seven points while playing lower down in lineups.

Even though having Wood could be beneficial for Toronto’s roster depth concerns regarding their bottom six already exist. Hence trading him makes sense-and Vancouver could indeed be that fit.

Wood Could Be a Solid Veteran Presence for Canucks

The Canucks are currently rebuilding their team so they could use more veteran players around to guide younger teammates through their development process. Therefore acquiring someone like Woods could prove valuable if he joins them from Toronto.

If things go well for him there then it may also help raise his trade value again; making him potentially useful later as part of deals since playoff teams often seek gritty players like Woods who bring energy onto ice!
