Ticketmaster Canada is taking down resale tickets that customers had listed for events in Ontario.

The company’s spokesperson Shabnum Durrani states that they removed the tickets to align with new provincial laws that will limit resale ticket prices to their original face value.

Customers will be able to relist their tickets next week when Ticketmaster updates its resale platform.

Durrani mentions that Ticketmaster has been informing customers about these changes.

This action follows the Ontario government’s passing of its budget bill, which includes the cap on resale ticket prices, although the bill still needs royal assent.

The price cap comes after consumers voiced concerns about resellers purchasing tickets for sought-after events, like last year’s World Series and Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, and then selling them for much more than face value.

WATCH | Province announced amendments to resale ticket price legislation last month:

Ontario plans to cap ticket resale prices at original cost

The Ford government is focusing on ticket resellers, aiming to make it illegal to sell concert and event tickets for more than their original price. CBC’s Lorenda Reddekopp explains what we know.

Last month, amendments were introduced to the 2017 Ticket Sales Act by the Ford government following Premier Doug Ford’s promise last year to review legislation due to soaring World Series resale ticket prices in Toronto.

This promise represents a significant shift from Premier Doug Ford’s earlier stance after his administration repealed part of an anti-scalping law in 2019 that would have limited resale prices to 50 percent above the original face value.
