Although summer is coming to a close, there’s still time to enjoy a few more beach days before the season ends.

If you want to take advantage of the warm weather while it lasts, you don’t need to go far for smooth sands, clear waters, and relaxed coastal vibes.

A short drive from Toronto will lead you to Niagara’s South Coast, a lakeside region along Lake Erie filled with sandy beaches, quaint towns, and outdoor fun.

According to the area’s website, it’s Ontario’s “unofficial beach capital,” thanks to its array of sandy shores and lovely spots to unwind during warmer days.

One highlight in the area is Bay Beach, also known as Crystal Beach. Situated in Fort Erie, this beautiful stretch of coast features soft light sand and warm Lake Erie waters that make you feel like you’re on an exotic getaway.

Another location worth adding to your late-summer plans is Nickel Beach in Port Colborne, where you’ll find a gentle expanse of sand meeting the sparkling lake.

You’ll discover other beaches scattered throughout the area too, including Waverly Beach, Centennial-Cedar Bay Beach, Long Beach and Reebs Bay Beach. Some beaches like Bay Beach do require day passes, so make sure to prepare ahead of time.

It’s wise to check which beaches are open and safe for swimming before you head out.

There’s plenty more at Niagara’s South Coast beyond just its beautiful beaches.

The region boasts scenic outdoor trails such as the Friendship Trail and Welland Canals Parkway Trail where you can enjoy the waterfront views on foot or by bike. You can also visit Safari Niagara home to over 1,000 animals.

After soaking up some sun, be sure to explore charming lakeside towns like Port Colborne and Crystal Beach.

These waterfront areas offer shops , restaurants , and hidden gems perfect for browsing or grabbing a meal or ice cream cone.

Don’t forget attractions like Old Fort Erie and the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum where you can dive deeper into local history.

With stunning beaches , shimmering lake views , and delightful waterfront communities , Niagara’s South Coast is an ideal spot for one last summer escape before autumn officially arrives.
