The Toronto Blue Jays are in a tough spot, with odds of +425 to reach the playoffs.

If they end up missing out on October baseball, they might point to one specific game or even just one inning as their downfall. That moment could be Thursday’s 13-2 loss against the Kansas City Royals, which was decided by a six-run surge from KC in the sixth inning.

With the Blue Jays currently 3.5 games behind for the final American League wild-card position, is their season basically over?

Let’s break it down.

<p Things are looking bleak in Toronto. The jeers from a crowd exceeding 40,000 were loud on Thursday as the Jays found themselves down 10-0 by the sixth inning.

The boos continued in the bottom half of that same inning when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded out to second base. This season has been puzzling for the struggling slugger, who hasn’t hit a single home run at Rogers Centre in 2026.

“When you’re getting your ass kicked pretty good, they’re allowed to have their opinion,” manager John Schneider said about the boos. “But we love their support every night.”

No matter if fans are cheering or booing, time isn’t on the Blue Jays’ side; they can’t afford any mistakes now. They are gearing up for back-to-back series against Seattle and Cleveland-two other teams also vying for that third AL wild-card spot.

The Blue Jays must win these next two series and likely need at least one sweep. If not, it may be time for players to start planning their offseason getaways.
