Last year, the town’s museum, culture, heritage, and special awards advisory committee received a request to rename the park. They were in favor of calling it the “Tillson Family Parkette.” A public notice was in the newspaper as part of the community engagement process outlined in the town’s Municipal Naming, Renaming, and Sponsorship Policy.
The change received support from eight committee members and was approved by council during their meeting on January 12. The estimated cost for replacing signage at the site is around $1,200 and will be covered through the parks operating budget.

The town council has given its approval for a land contribution at 31 Earle St., which will be utilized for affordable housing initiatives.
Council agreed on a land value contribution on Monday that matches one from Oxford County, with a maximum total of $1.5 million allocated for an affordable or attainable housing project. Town staff are tasked with confirming this land value; any net proceeds from future transactions will help fund renovations at town hall.

The use of this property was discussed by officials back in February 2023. At that time, staff were directed to prepare all necessary planning for future development on an excess portion of land.
In November 2024, Oxford County issued an expression of interest regarding an affordable housing initiative.
“The proposals received indicated that affordable ownership options could be viable on this property versus affordable rentals,” stated a report by Cephas Panschow, development commissioner and Duncan Bryce, executive assistant.
Oxford County officials are now preparing a request for proposal to find and select a developer.
“The project aims to address housing needs through innovative proposals that include a mix of market and affordable ownership units,” noted the report. “Due to numerous apartment rental developments proposed for our town, we lack an affordable ownership option in our market.”
