The Ministry of Natural Resources has reported nine new wildland fires within the last 24 hours.
Most of these are relatively small.
Two new fires have started in Quetico Provincial Park, northeast of This Man Lake and close to Baptism Lake.
Additional fires in the MNR’s Fort Frances Fire District were identified near the southern part of White Otter Lake and near Mc Taggart Lake, roughly 2.6 kilometres east of Highway 502.
Three fires have been detected within the Sioux Lookout Fire District.
One fire is located south of Wunnummin Lake near Brock Lake, while two others are about 30 km north of Slate Falls Nation, close to Meen Lake, and are currently being monitored.
Another fire north of Fry Lake, between Nabemakoseka Lake and Obaskaka Lake is approximately 25 hectares in size and is considered not under control.
In the Dryden area, a blaze has ignited east of Highway 502, north of Rattlesnake Lake.
As of Thursday night, there are still 74 active fires.
Thirteen are categorized as not under control while 55 are being watched as they pose no threat to public safety or property.
Some regions might also notice smoke during the day.
According to the MNR, this smoke is coming from fires burning in both Ontario and Minnesota.
