The Central Canadian Resource Expo (CEN-CAN) recognition emphasizes collaboration between Northern Ontario’s forestry and critical minerals sectors.
Rock Tech Lithium and Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper have been honored with the 2026 Northern Innovators Award at CENCAN 2026. This award highlights an innovative partnership in Ontario that is assessing crude tall oil as a locally sourced flotation reagent for lithium processing. The project receives support from the Province of Ontario via the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund, alongside research expertise from Queen’s University.
TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Rock Tech Lithium Inc. (TSXV: RCK) (OTCQX: RCKTF) (FWB: RJIB) (WKN: A1XF0V) (the “Company” or “Rock Tech”) is excited to announce that both Rock Tech and Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper have received the esteemed 2026 Northern Innovators Award, presented by Mining Life & Exploration News during the Cen-Can Expo Gala Dinner in Thunder Bay.
This award acknowledges their joint effort to evaluate crude tall oil-a by-product of Ontario’s pulp and paper sector-as a potential local flotation reagent for lithium processing.
Rock Tech Lithium – Hon. Kevin Holland – Jennifer Main – Cam Andrews
This project is backed by the Province of Ontario through its Critical Minerals Innovation Fund (“CMIF”), bringing together Rock Tech, Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper, and Queen’s University to investigate how a forestry by-product can help promote more sustainable, competitive, and resilient critical minerals processing in Ontario.
“This award recognizes how bringing Northern Ontario industries together can solve practical challenges and create new opportunities,” said Mirco Wojnarowicz, CEO of Rock Tech. “Our collaboration with Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper and Queen’s University shows the potential for Ontario’s strengths in forestry, critical minerals, and research to be combined to advance locally developed solutions. We thank Mining Life & Exploration News for this recognition and the Province of Ontario for supporting the project through CMIF.”
If validated successfully, crude tall oil could serve as a more localized source of flotation reagents, present a new use for an Ontario forestry by-product, and guide future technical as well as economic optimization of Rock Tech’s Georgia Lake Lithium Project.
The initiative aligns with Rock Tech’s larger strategy to build an integrated mine-to-converter lithium supply chain in Northern Ontario that links the Georgia Lake Project with the proposed Red Rock Lithium Converter.

CEO About Rock Tech Lithium Rock Tech is working towards making battery production in Europe and North America more self-sufficient and competitive. The Company’s aim is to secure high-quality lithium produced locally-supporting a resilient, sustainable value chain from mining to battery-grade material. Rock Tech focuses on responsible sourcing alongside advanced technologies while adhering strictly to circular economy principles. Its lithium converter projects located in Guben, Germany (24,000 tonnes LHM per year) and Ontario (up to 32,000 tonnes LCE per year) lay down a stable regional supply for battery production across various industries. The Guben converter has received acknowledgment as a Strategic Project under the EU Critical Raw Materials Act. The raw materials used for Rock Tech’s converter projects are planned to be sourced only from suppliers who meet ESG compliance standards. In Canada, they rely on their wholly-owned Georgia Lake Project among other sources which aims at providing steady sustainable supplies specifically for North America while developing close partnerships with local Indigenous communities. By including recycled materials into their operations, they strive toward closing off local battery loops. Through its facilities, Rock Tech plans on contributing significantly towards achieving sovereignty over battery-grade materials along with climate goals. They collaborate closely with industry leaders as well as policymakers while maintaining strong communication lines within communities while upholding top environmental standards throughout their initiatives.
