SIOUX LOOKOUT – Ontario Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout report that a passenger was taken into custody and charged following an incident involving a Wasaya Airways flight from Thunder Bay at the Sioux Lookout Airport.

According to OPP, officers were dispatched to the airport on Jan. 9, 2026, after receiving alerts about potential risks to the safety of individuals aboard the plane. Police claim that a female passenger became aggressive during the flight and assaulted a male passenger.

Drug Discovery and Previous Charge Mentioned by Authorities

The OPP state that the woman was apprehended at the airport where officers found a quantity of suspected crack cocaine. She was taken into custody and is being held at the Sioux Lookout OPP detachment.

Additionally, police allege that the suspect had an ongoing impaired driving case linked to Wunnumin Lake.

Charges Filed

Authorities report that Rayanne Anderson, 44 (born Aug. 14, 1981), faces charges for:

Details of Charges and Possible Penalties

1) Assault (Criminal Code, s. 266)

If pursued by indictment: maximum penalty is 5 years in prison.

If pursued summarily: it’s “punishable on summary conviction,” with a general maximum of up to 2 years less a day and/or a $5,000 fine (unless specified otherwise).

2) Endangering Aircraft Safety (Criminal Code, s. 77)

3) Possession for Trafficking – Crack Cocaine (CDSA, s. 5(2))

Cocaine is classified as a Schedule I substance.

For trafficking or possession intended for trafficking in a Schedule I substance, this offence is indictable with potential penalties including life imprisonment.

Possible Additional Outcomes (Case-Specific)

Depending on specific details surrounding the case, courts may impose various conditions/orders such as probation terms, weapon prohibitions, no-contact orders, and other limitations-these aren’t automatic but are often considered when public safety is involved.

Conditions for Release and Next Court Appearance

OPP indicate that Anderson was released by Justice of the Peace Joanne Clouston on Jan. 10, 2026, under a $200 no-deposit bail with certain conditions which include:

Living in Kasabonika Lake

Only attending Sioux Lookout for medical reasons

No contact with the complainant

The accused’s next court date is set for Wunnumin Lake on Jan. 19, 2026.

These charges are yet to be proven in court.
