A Thunder Bay man has been charged for not staying at the scene of a crash near Schreiber on Highway 17. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
OPP find suspect vehicle linked to Highway 17 accident west of Schreiber; no injuries reported
SCHREIBER, ON – NEWS – A 25-year-old man from Thunder Bay is now facing several charges under the Highway Traffic Act after a two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 17 west of Schreiber on the evening of January 30, 2026.
At around 8:00 p. m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Schreiber Detachment were called to investigate a reported collision involving a blue GMC Sierra and a white Ford Transit van.
Accident Details
According to police reports, the GMC Sierra was heading east and navigating a curve when it encountered a white Ford Transit van trying to overtake a tractor-trailer in the opposite lane. The two vehicles collided on their passenger sides, and afterward, the Ford Transit continued traveling west without stopping.
No injuries were recorded at the site of the accident.
Investigation and Legal Actions
The Nipigon OPP Detachment later located the vehicle in question. Investigators identified the Ford Transit van based on damage related to the crash and parts that were found at the scene.
Consequently, Himanshu, aged 25 from Thunder Bay, Ontario, faces multiple charges under the Highway Traffic Act:
Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident – Section 200(1)(a)
Fail to Report an Accident – Section 199(1)
Careless Driving – Section 130(1)
Driver Fail to Wear Seat Belt – Section 106(2)
He has been released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
