THUNDER BAY – WEATHER DESK – Summer continues here; after a cooler June, it’s crucial to stay hydrated and be mindful of the sun and bugs.

Thunder Bay kicks off Wednesday with a mild and humid vibe, featuring mostly cloudy skies and a temperature of 18.3°C at 7:00 AM EDT. While the air feels moist, pressure is rising, indicating that conditions should improve once the early shower risk passes.

The day will mostly stay cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of showers in the early morning. Temperatures are expected to rise to 25°C, with a humidex around 27. The UV index is rated at 8, which is very high, so protecting yourself from the sun is still necessary despite the cloud cover.

Current Conditions

As of 7:00 AM EDT, Thunder Bay reported mostly cloudy skies with temperatures at 18.3°C.

The dew point was measured at 15.9°C, and humidity sat at 86 percent, creating a mild and somewhat muggy atmosphere this morning. Winds were light coming from the southwest at 5 km/h; visibility was excellent at 32 km while barometric pressure was recorded at 101.5 k Pa and on the rise.

Expected Conditions

Tonight will feature partly cloudy skies with fog patches likely developing close to midnight. The overnight low is expected to drop to about 12°C.

Thursday, July 9: We can expect sunshine as morning fog dissipates. Highs will reach around 26°C while maintaining a very high UV index of 8. Thursday night should be clear and cool with lows around 10°C.

Friday, July 10: Another sunny day is on tap with highs reaching up to 26°C again. Clear skies will continue into Friday night as temperatures dip near 14°C.

Saturday, July 11: The weekend starts off warm with a chance of showers sitting at about thirty percent and highs nearing 27°C. Saturday night also carries that same thirty percent chance for rain along with lows around fifteen degrees Celsius.

Light summer attire should be suitable for today; however, keeping a light rain jacket or compact umbrella handy for any early showers would be wise. With such a high UV index today, it’s advisable to wear sunglasses, sunscreen, and maybe even a hat during brighter moments.

For tonight and early Thursday morning , drivers need to keep an eye out for fog patches , particularly in lower areas or near bodies of water. A light sweater may also come in handy when it gets cooler this evening.

Fog tends to form when moist air cools close to the ground overnight. Given today’s high humidity levels coupled with lighter winds tonight , Thunder Bay has favorable conditions for fog patches emerging by midnight before sunshine makes its return Thursday morning.
