Thunder Bay No. 36 is still out of control, covering 301,000 hectares.

THUNDER BAY – The number of forest fires in Northwestern Ontario has decreased to 85.

According to a statement released by Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services on Saturday night, seven fires are classified as not under control, six are being contained, nine are under control, and the remaining 63 are being monitored.

The largest fire, Thunder Bay No.36, continues to be out of control and spans 301,240 acres. Also out of control are Dryden No. 34 (45,800 hectares), Dryden No. 35 (30,201 hectares), Fort Frances No. 14 (51,768 hectares), and Fort Frances No. 15 (42,273 hectares).

A restricted fire zone that was put in place on July 15 is still active for the Northwest Region along with a small section of the Northeast Region.
