The Chatham Maroons are just one win away from moving on to the second round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) playoffs.

On Thursday, they faced off against St. Thomas in Game 3 of their best-of-seven series, with the Maroons coming out on top 7-4.

The first period was tightly contested, and both teams managed to score once. Trevor Zanutto netted the goal for the Maroons, marking his second of the playoffs. Assists were credited to Dylan Richter and Ewan Mc Chesney.

Only a single goal was scored in the second period. Ian Lachance put the Maroons ahead by one with his second goal of these playoffs.

The third period erupted with a total of eight goals combined.

The Maroons struck first in this period with three goals. Zanutto scored twice, completing his hat-trick, while Aidan Edwards added another goal. Edwards also assisted on Zanutto’s third goal, while Mc Chesney, Jaxon Priddle, Josh Harding, Braeden Burke, and Carter Kucher each earned assists as well.

St. Thomas responded with two quick goals before Xandre Aitken found an empty net for his second playoff goal.

St. Thomas added one more before Edwards scored again for his second of the game and third overall during these playoffs to finalize the score. Mc Chesney picked up the sole assist on the Maroons’ seventh goal.

Game 4 is set for Friday night in St. Thomas, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p. m.
