The Chatham Maroons managed to secure a single victory during their weekend games.
On Saturday, they traveled to Elmira and defeated the Sugar Kings 5-3.
Just over seven minutes into the game, the Maroons took a 2-0 lead. Ewan Mc Chesney scored his 17th goal of the season with assists from Jason Harding and Jaxon Priddle before Dylan Richter found the net for his ninth goal with help from Xandre Aitken and Bo Doxtator.
Elmira managed to equalize before the end of the first period by scoring twice in just eight seconds.
Aidan Edwards restored the Maroons’ lead in the second period with his 10th goal, assisted solely by Santiago Jimenes.
Richter then added another goal in the third period, marking his second of the game. Carter Chadwick and Ian Lachance provided assists on that one.
Matthew Crawford capped off the scoring for Chatham by netting his first career Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) goal.
Samuel Di Blasi made 32 saves to earn the win.
The Maroons were back on home ice the following day but fell 6-5 in overtime against the St. Thomas Stars.
Trevor Zanutto kicked things off with his 26th goal, receiving assists from Mc Chesney and Carter Kucher.
St. Thomas quickly tied it up before Aitken scored again for Chatham, making it six goals for him this season with assistance from Crawford and Doxtator.
The next three goals came from St. Thomas. However, Aydan Doyle got one back for Chatham with an unassisted seventh goal.
St. Thomas netted their fifth early in the third period, but Chadwick responded with two goals to tie things up. His 20th goal had assists from Richter and Zanutto, while Lachance assisted on his 21st goal shortly after.
It took less than two minutes in overtime for St. Thomas to score the game-winner by Eloan Le Gallic.
Di Blasi recorded 40 saves despite the loss.
The Maroons will be back on January 23 when they face St. Thomas on their turf again.
