St. Thomas, Ont., police have arrested a 46-year-old man on manslaughter charges, claiming he provided the substance that led to a woman’s death at the end of last month.
Officers responded to an unknown location in downtown St. Thomas on May 30 after receiving a report about an unresponsive woman.
The woman, whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead, according to police.
As they continued their investigation, officers identified the 46-year-old as a suspect, leading to his arrest in Aylmer, Ont., on Monday.
The specific substance responsible for the woman’s death has not been disclosed by authorities.
The accused faces additional charges for trafficking a Schedule 1 substance, specifically fentanyl, as detailed in court documents that list him as having no fixed address.
The man appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded into custody with a scheduled court date of June 12.
