The AMJ Masters Tier 2 is gearing up, as the Grand Slam of Curling revealed the draw schedule for the tournament on Tuesday.
This exciting event will be held at the St. Thomas Curling Club from September 24 to 27 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The finals for both men’s and women’s categories will take place alongside the Tier 1 finals on September 28 at the Western Fair Sports Centre in London, Ontario. The Tier 2 division includes teams ranked next in line by World Curling and those invited regionally.
<p Eight countries will participate in Tier 2, featuring teams from Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Japan, Scotland, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States.
Czechia’s Team Klima, Denmark’s Team Dupont, and Scotland’s Team Morrison have already qualified for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. There’ll be an early Olympic preview as Dupont takes on Morrison during pool play.
A highlight match in round-robin action will see Team Shuster face off against Team Koe; both teams are looking to make a strong return to elite competition. Shuster triumphed over Koe in the semifinals of the 2018 Winter Olympics while securing a gold medal.
Each team is set to play four round-robin matches: three against their pool opponents and one crossover game. Teams from Pool A will compete against those from Pool C, while teams from Pool B will take on teams from Pool D. The crossover games are scheduled for September 26 with pairings determined by standings after pool play concludes. The top team faces off against the fourth-placed team while second meets third place – and vice versa.
This season marks an expansion for Grand Slam of Curling events with added Tier 2 tournaments for both AMJ Masters and Canadian Open. Traditionally including a Tier 2 segment, this year’s Tour Challenge will feature U25 and U15 competitions instead.
Additionally, AMJ Masters will host its first GSOC Wheelchair Curling Invitational. Round-robin matches are set to occur at KW Granite Club in Waterloo, Ontario with medal games being played alongside both finals on September 28 at Western Fair Sports Centre.
