A man and woman from St. Thomas are facing multiple drug charges after an investigation started due to a reported dog attack and a vehicle collision earlier this month.
Police were called to the Sunset Drive area shortly after 6:30 p. m. on July 7 following reports of a dog attacking two individuals.
When officers arrived, they found a Dodge Caravan that had crashed into a building and was leaning against the front of the business, according to police.
Two people suffered “significant” injuries and were taken to the hospital, police reported. The dog involved in the incident was also hurt and later died.
After reviewing surveillance video and collecting more evidence, police arrested a 44-year-old man from St. Thomas, charging him with assault with a weapon and making threats to cause death or bodily harm.
While examining the vehicle, officers discovered a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. The vehicle was seized while awaiting a search warrant.
On July 9, officers executed the warrant and found 32.3 grams of methamphetamine, 2.4 grams of crack cocaine, brass knuckles, and a digital scale. Police estimated the street value of the drugs at around $2,700.
The man faces additional charges for possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking – methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking – cocaine, as well as unauthorized possession of a weapon. He remains in custody.
A 39-year-old woman from St. Thomas is also charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking – methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking – cocaine, along with unauthorized possession of a weapon.
According to police, she turned herself in on Tuesday and has been released under an undertaking with an upcoming court date.
