On Sunday, six individuals, including a baby, were hospitalized in southern Ontario following a collision between an SUV and a GO Transit bus.

According to Niagara Regional Police, the incident took place in the northern part of St. Catharines, Ont., near North Service Road and YMCA Drive, just off the Queen Elizabeth Way.

A Honda CRV traveling in the northbound lane crashed directly into a GO bus that was heading south.

Authorities report that there were 18 passengers on board the bus; six people – five passengers and the bus driver – were taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

Investigators revealed that a 56-year-old man from Omemee, Ont., is facing charges for impaired driving and has had his driver’s license temporarily suspended.

“[The man] was found to be three times over the legal limit of blood alcohol concentration,” police said in the release. He was also charged with having cannabis “readily available” while driving.

The man has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, according to Niagara police.
