General Motors has announced that it will produce some of its upcoming V8 engines in Canada. The company plans to invest $691 million CAD to upgrade its manufacturing plant in St. Catharines, Ontario for the assembly of the new V8 powertrain.

The St. Catharines facility currently makes fifth-generation V8 engines, which are sent to various General Motors assembly plants throughout North America. This plant first opened in 1952 and covers an area of 2 million square feet.

The next-gen V8s for full-size trucks and SUVs
The new generation of V8 engines is set to be used in future full-size pickup trucks and SUVs across different General Motors brands. The company confirmed that these engines will also be produced at two additional locations, one in Buffalo, New York and another in Flint, Michigan.

So far, GM hasn’t provided many details about the next versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, which are expected to feature the upcoming V8 engines.
