A driver was hurt when a tree fell on their vehicle while traveling on Highway 24 west in Norfolk County on Friday.

The incident occurred on Highway 24 between Forestry Farm Road and East Quarter Line Road just before 12:30 p. m. on Aug. 14, according to Norfolk OPP Const. Andrew Gamble via social media.

Gamble reported that the driver of a white SUV sustained injuries that were not immediately clear and was taken to the hospital for care.

Norfolk OPP, along with paramedics and firefighters, arrived at the scene to assist.

“Something like this is very uncommon,” said Gamble. “It is infrequent but we are always encouraging every single motorist to be extremely vigilant when behind the wheel and to expect the unexpected.”

The highway section was closed for several hours for police investigation and tree removal.
