Provincial police report that a man has been hit with an upgraded murder charge and an added first-degree murder charge connected to the deaths of two individuals in southwestern Ontario last month.
On the morning of Oct. 5, authorities were called to a residence in Simcoe, where they discovered 71-year-old Barbara Morgan deceased.
The police took a 45-year-old man into custody on a second-degree murder charge related to her death, later identifying him as her son.
According to OPP, on Oct. 16, officers uncovered remains in a wooded area near Highway 6 and confirmed they belonged to 49-year-old Robert Sykes, who was also a victim of homicide.
The suspect is now facing two counts of first-degree murder after his previous second-degree murder charge was elevated.
Officials say the accused is set to appear in court in Simcoe on Friday.
