The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed that a supercell tornado touched down near Glencoe.

Officials reported that the tornado, which has a preliminary rating of EF0, created a narrow path of damage just west of the town on Thursday, June 25.

EF0 tornadoes are among the weaker types, with wind speeds between 90 and 130 kilometres per hour.

A damage survey team is scheduled to visit the area today to finalize the rating, length, and maximum width, as well as document any downburst or hail damage that may have happened during the storm.

Environment Canada issued a red tornado warning for Sarnia-Lambton shortly before 4:30 p. m. on Thursday. The national weather agency indicated it was monitoring a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado moving east of Sarnia. The warning for Sarnia was lifted just before 5 p. m.

A red tornado warning was then released for Chatham-Kent soon after 7 p. m. when a storm cell capable of generating a tornado moved through the area.

Environment Canada noted that a suspected tornado was spotted over Moraviantown at that time and was moving east at about 40 kilometres per hour.

The areas in its path included Thamesville, Ridgetown, Highgate, and Rodney.

However, no confirmation has been made regarding a tornado or downburst there yet.
