They earned finalist medals for the third time in five years on Monday during the 19-team AAA championship held in Windsor.
“Heading into the season, (we) thought it was going to be a rebuilding year,” head coach James Grant said. “The guys just came out and played hard, and obviously we had that good junior team, so that bolstered us.”
The senior team got a boost by calling up players from the Brigade 22U team that won its Ontario elimination tournament the previous weekend.
The Brigade fell to the undefeated Windsor Stars with a score of 10-6 in the final of this double-knockout, four-day senior tournament. They needed to defeat the Stars twice to take home gold.
The Brigade managed to avoid elimination four times, finishing with a record of 5-2.
They started strong in the final game and were ahead 3-0 after one inning.
The Stars fought back with seven runs in the top of the third inning. The Brigade loaded the bases without any outs in their half of that inning but could only score once and ended up trailing 7-4.
This season, they played fewer games than usual. Without a league, they scheduled exhibitions against teams from Windsor-area within the Can Am league and participated in just one tournament.

“It’s not ideal, that’s for sure,” Grant said. “We’re at the point where we’re trying to find teams to play that can get us prepared (for eliminations).
“But… maybe there’s something to be said about being fresh this weekend too because we overachieved from what we thought we were going to do.”
The Brigade beat Tecumseh Thunder with a score of 4-3 in a semifinal earlier Monday. Cole Brydges pitched an entire game while Blake Butler scored on a wild pitch during bottom sixth innings breaking a tie at three all.
The last three senior teams – Stars, Brigade and Thunder – also represent Ontario at Canadian U22 championships happening this weekend in Tecumseh.
“There’s so much talent down in these border towns,” Grant said.
The Brigade kicked off with a solid win against East York by scoring 14-4. Seth Ainsworth threw a complete game; Kyle Moloney hit a homer along with five RBIs while Wes Brooks added another homer.
After losing to Milton with a score of 9-4; they overcame four errors defeating Oakville by making it an eight-six game as Brydges gave away just two earned runs throughout his complete-game victory.
