A number of bands from southwestern Ontario are set to perform at the Canatara Park Bandshell as part of a fundraiser for Ryan’s House.

Punk Rock Picnic is happening on Saturday, June 20, from 3 p. m. to 9 p. m.

Co-organizer Desiree Percival expressed her excitement about the event returning after not being held since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the break, Percival mentioned that the event typically attracted a crowd of around 150 to 200 people.

“You can expect six pretty cool southwestern Ontario bands. They’re all over the map. We have some thrash, we have some punk.. we have a cover band,” Percival said. “They take your classic 50s and 60s songs and make them a little bit faster to dance to.”

Local vendors will also be present in the park selling food and other items.

Percival explained that the event began as a way to gather outside and raise funds for a good cause, with different charities being chosen each year.

“Ryan’s House is near and dear to us, so we’re doing that one this year,” Percival said.

Bluewater Health’s Ryan’s House is a residential withdrawal management facility that opened in 2021.

Tickets for this family-friendly, unlicensed event cost $15 each and can be bought online at revelree. ca. Kids under 14 can enter for free.

You can find more details on the event’s Facebook page.
